About
A Lifelong Passion for Music and Craftsmanship
Behind every great piano is a skilled hand—and an even better ear. My name is Bill Nienaber, and I’ve been tuning and repairing pianos for more than 23 years. What began as an interest in musical instruments turned into a lifelong profession built on precision, patience, and a genuine love for helping people enjoy music.

Where It All Began: Pipe Organs in the Southeast
My path into piano tuning was anything but ordinary. In 2000, I had the privilege of working for a pipe organ builder and tuner in Atlanta, Georgia. This wasn’t just a job—it was an immersive, on-the-road education. I traveled across the Southeast, helping install, service, and tune massive pipe organs in churches, universities, and concert halls. It was through this experience that I began training my ear and understanding the delicate balance of sound and mechanics.
It’s where I learned that no two instruments are alike—and that great tuning isn’t just about hitting the right pitch. It’s about listening, adjusting, and respecting the unique character of each instrument.
Coming Home to the Northwoods
In 2003, I returned to Wisconsin’s Northwoods, settling in Woodruff and transitioning my expertise to piano tuning and repair. With the fundamentals I developed through my work on pipe organs, I began studying piano-specific techniques and gradually built a loyal client base of families, churches, schools, and retirement communities.
There’s something incredibly fulfilling about restoring a piano that hasn’t been played in years—or helping a student prepare for their first recital. For me, it’s not just about fixing problems. It’s about helping people reconnect with the joy of music.

Pianos of All Kinds—Tuned with Care
Over the years, I’ve had the chance to work on every kind of piano—from uprights tucked in cozy living rooms to grand pianos in community halls. My services include everything from:
Why I Love What I Do
You could say I’ve built my life around listening—literally. I’ve come to love the nuances of tuning, the mechanical problem-solving of repair work, and the smiles I see when a piano comes back to life.
It’s more than just a technical job. It’s a service to people. I’ve worked with:
- Music teachers preparing students for performances
- Parents and grandparents restoring family heirlooms
- Churches maintaining instruments for weekly worship
- Retirement homes bringing back joyful memories through music
- Performers who rely on a tuned instrument to match their talent
I love to serve people and make music enjoyable for them. That’s what keeps me going—23 years and counting.
